KTWV 08 Issue 06: Award for Stephanian

Recently we published info about one bad apple out of our Stephanian History Department. It is nice to read about the other side of the coin.

Stephanian Nirat Alva was recently honoured in New Delhi. Niret is part of a truly outstanding family. His mother, Margret Alva, is the politician and also who was a Minister in the Indian Government of Rajiv Gandhi. Margret Alva won many battles for the underprivileged and for the women of India.


Annikki at the hotel in Mangalore in 1992 where we spent a lovely few days with a very hospitable and friendly population.

Following the announcement of National Awards in Science and Technology Communication by Department of Science and Technology, Government Of India, a special felicitation ceremony for the awardees was hosted by Hon’ble President Of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam on March 02, 2007 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Niret Alva, Co-founder of Miditech was conferred with the National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology in Electronic Medium. Present at the award function were, Mr. Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science and Technology and R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor......

.....Niret has a long and distinguished career as reporter, anchor and director. He is a graduate in History from St. Stephen's College Delhi, a post graduate diploma in journalism holder from the Indian Institute of Mass Communications, a recipient of a certificate from the Radio Netherlands Training Centre in Hilversum(Holland) for a News and Current Affairs course in Television and has earned a law degree(LLB) from Mumbai university. .....
